AADR President Dianne Rekow Is
IUSD Research Day's Keynote Speaker
Indiana University School of Dentistry welcomed E. Dianne Rekow, D.D.S.,
Ph.D., newly installed president of the American Association for Dental
Research, to the school's annual Research Day, held in conjunction with the
Indiana Section of the AADR on April 12, 2006.
Dr. Rekow addressed IUSD's students, staff, and faculty on the topic
"Multidisciplinary Science: Discovering How and Why Posterior All-Ceramic Crowns
Fail."
She chairs the Department of Basic Science and Craniofacial Biology at New
York University College of Dentistry, and directs the college's Translational
Research program.
At NYU, Dr. Rekow is stepping up efforts to close the gap between basic
science and clinical researchers. She is committed to encouraging basic
scientists and clinical researchers to share information as a means of
increasing the prospects for translational research - so called because it
translates novel basic science findings into testable hypotheses that may
ultimately be integrated into clinical practice.
Dr. Rekow holds a dental degree, master's degree in mechanical engineering,
orthodontic certificate, and Ph.D. in biomedical engineering from the University
of Minnesota. She also earned an M.B.A. from the College of St. Thomas.
Research Day featured 55 poster and table clinic presentations by the school's
faculty, staff, and students. Many of the projects represented research that had
been presented in March at the American Association for Dental Research annual
session in Orlando, Fla.
The Wm. Wrigley Jr. Company once again served as Research Day's Corporate
Sponsor, and Delta Dental as the event's Associate Corporate Sponsor. The
program also included exhibitors representing a wide variety of manufacturers,
laboratories, agencies, and organizations.
Dr. Dominique Galli, president of the Indiana Section of the AADR, and her
2006 Research Day Organizing Committee are pleased to announce the names of the
Research Day award recipients.
