NATIONAL APPOINTMENTS. Pamela Rettig, clinical associate professor of
dental hygiene, has been appointed to a one-year, renewable term as an Allied
Dental Education site visitor to the American Dental Association's Commission on
Dental Accreditation. She will assume her new role in October.
Also, one of our pediatric dentistry residents will spend the next year
contributing to a national group. Dr. Tawana Lee has been selected by the
American Medical Student Association Foundation to participate in a new
Leadership Seminar Series addressing matters pertinent to public health. Dr.
Lee, who begins her second year in the residency this summer, will join 19 other
students from around the country for sessions to be held in Washington, D.C., in
October; in Miami, Fla., in February; and in Houston, Texas, next May. As part
of the series, students will also undertake assignments back at their home bases
throughout the year, including a community health project and presentations to
colleagues.
And, Dr. Carl Newton, professor of endodontics, was one of three
endodontists elected to the nine-member board of directors of the American Board
of Endodontics at the annual meeting of the American Association of Endodontists
(AAE), held recently in Tampa, Fla. A former president of the AAE, Dr. Newton
was elected to the directorship by the voting membership of the AAE for a term
of three years.
LECTURE CIRCUIT. Also at the AAE annual meeting, Dr. Donald Arens,
professor of endodontics, presented one of the educational sessions. His
presentation, "Testing the Limits of Endodontic Therapy," included participation
by several of his colleagues, among them Dr. Carl Newton and IU alumnus
Dr. Joe Camp, of Charlotte, N.C., who graduated from the pediatric
dentistry program in 1968.
