Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency Training
The Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residency program at Indiana University is a four year certificate program fully accredited by the American Dental Association. The residency is sponsored by Indiana University and its School of Dentistry. It is the only program in the State of Indiana located on the health sciences campus of Indiana University/ Purdue University Indianapolis and provides training in the full scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery. The residency accepts three residents per year.
Oral and maxillofacial surgical training occurs under the auspices of the School of Dentistry at several affiliated hospitals. The residents rotate to the three hospital facilities of IU Health Services and those of the William N. Wishard Memorial Hospital. There are well over 10,000 outpatient oral and maxillofacial surgery outpatient visits and 750 ambulatory office anesthestics.
The residency is structured so that throughout the four years the resident will participate in a core oral and maxillofacial experience in addition to assigned formal rotations in Anesthesia, Medicine, General Surgery, Trauma Surgery, Oral Pathology, Head and Neck surgery, and ICU. In addition to the clinical rotations, the resident will participate in a didactic program that has several conferences scheduled per week.
