Patricia Capps Elected to Dental Assisting National Board
Patricia Capps, a clinical associate professor of dental assisting at the Indiana University School of Dentistry, was elected to the Dental Assisting National Board, Inc. (DANB) board of directors from a slate of nominees provided by the American Dental Education Association (ADEA). Prof. Capps directs the IU dental school's Dental Assisting Distance Learning program. She says she looks forward to serving on DANB's Board to "reinforce the mission of DANB and represent the organization on a national level."
Prof. Capps earned her bachelor's degree in dental hygiene from the University of Missouri in Kansas City and her master's in health science from Ball State University. She has been a DANB Certified Dental Assistant since 2002.
She has been a member of the American Dental Assistants Association for more than 10 years. She has held numerous positions at national, state, and local levels, including service as president of the Indiana Dental Assistants Association from 2009 to 2010. She is also the current chair of the ADEA Section on Dental Assisting Education.
She has received numerous accolades, including the 2011 Distinguished Teacher Award from the IU School of Dentistry Alumni Association. She is the first dental assisting educator at IU to receive the award.
The board of directors of the Dental Assisting National Board is composed of seven members. Prof. Capps will serve a three-year term.
