Karen Yoder is Professor of Preventive and Community Dentistry and Director of Civic and Engagement and Health Policy at Indiana University School of Dentistry (IUSD). She received a PhD in dental science from IUSD with a minor in health policy. Dr. Yoder is adjunct faculty in the MPH Program at IU School of Medicine and at Indiana Purdue University Fort Wayne. Her previous professional roles include private practice as a dental hygienist, dental hygiene faculty member, Oral Health Consultant for Indiana State Department of Health, Region V Head Start Dental Consultant, Research Associate, University of Dar es Salaam School of Dentistry (Tanzania) and five years in dental public health at Kilimanjaro Medical Center in Moshi, Tanzania. She facilitates IUSD’s international service-learning program together with Dr. Timothy Carlson and Dr. Angeles Martinez-Mier and is country director of the IUSD-Moi University School of Dentistry (Kenya) Partnership. Her recent awards include the Indiana University Thomas Ehrlich Award for Excellence in Service-Learning (2008), Distinguished Hoosier Award from Governor Mitchell E. Daniels (2009) and the Maynard K. Hine Award from the IUPUI Alumni Association (2012).
