Application Process:

Our selection process is facilitated through our use of PASS.     The 2013 PASS online application will be available in May 2012.  The PASS application deadline is September 15, 2012.

Applicants must also obtain a MATCH number.  PASS pediatric dentistry may obtain a MATCH number within the PASS applicant portal.  Data will flow to the National Matching Services, Inc. (NMS) for all applicants who select the Dental Match from the services menu, and ADEA will pay the appropriate fees to NMS.

The following should be sent directly to PASS.

Class ranking or standing:  Class ranking or standing is mandatory for all applicants except those from Un-Graded programs.  Class rank is acceptable only when it appears in the transcript, Dean's letter, or Registrar's letter.   Class rankings and GPA should be recorded on the PASS instituitonal evaluation and sent directly to PASS.

National Board Dental Scores:  National Board dental scores are mandatory.  IUSD will accept National Board scores reported on the Dean's letter.    Part II scores are not required for 4th year dental students attending an accredited dental program, but should be provided as soon as they are available.

Three Personal Professional Index (ETS PPI) evaluations:  Three ETS Personal Potential Index (ETS PPI) evaluations are required.   All applicants must enter evaluator contact information using the ETS PPI dedicated link in his or her ADEA PASS application account in order to have the form delivered electronically to each evaluator.  Evaluations should be from faculty members, private practitioners or friends, in that order of importance.  An ADEA PASS Institution Evaluation Form (ADEA IEF) is also required from the Dean (or his/her representative) of your dental school.

The following supplemental items should be sent to the IUSD Office of Graduate Education by October 1, 2011.

School Certification of Disciplinary History form:  This form should be sent to the Dean of your dental school or an appropriate school official who can accurately certify your disciplinary history.  The completed form should be placed in a sealed envelope and returned to the IUSD Office of Graduate Education.

Postdoctoral Pediatric Dentistry
Residency Program

The postdoctoral pediatric dentistry program at Indiana University is administered through Indiana University School of Dentistry, Indiana University School of Medicine, and Clarian Health Partners.   It is a 24-month program with new classes beginning the first week of July every year.  The clinical training is based at James Whitcomb Riley Hospital for Children, but some clinical experiences are also obtained at the School of Dentistry and other campus hospitals.  Didactic courses are offered in both the school and hospital settings.  The training program is accredited by the Commissions on Dental Accreditation of the American Dental Association.  Each trainee is a graduate student of the School of Dentistry and a resident at Riley Hospital.

Our 2011-2012 first-year residents received an annual salary of $48,956 and second-year residents received $50,056. Fringe benefits, including health and liability insurance, parking permits, and some meals are also provided. Expenses for tuition, instruments, books, and various supplies were approximately $30,000 for the 2011-2012 school year.

Although the program has a significant didactic component, it also has a strong clinical orientation and trainees spend 75% to 80% of their scheduled time in clinical activities. The clinical training includes a wide range of out-patient and in-patient care and encompasses all phases of treatment in the specialty of pediatric dentistry.  Different clinical rotations focus special attention on anesthesiology, oral-facial anomalies, occlusion, emergencies and trauma follow-up, medical and physical disorders, patient management and sedation, pediatric, periodontics and endodontics, and cooperative participation with the various sections of the Department of Pediatrics.
