IU School of Dentistry - Laptop Rollout

The School of Dentistry requires all of its predoctoral students to purchase a laptop computer prior to the start of their first year of matriculation. The Student Technology Support division of the Department of Technology Services in turn provides support for these machines on a regular basis. Now in its 11th year of being a requirement for study, the laptop computers are used to support various ongoing and planned initiatives, including:

A standard method (e-mail) of communication between students and faculty, as well as allowing student-to-student communication on an individual or entire class basis
Electronic access to a wide range of material, including information posted by instructors on the University's web-based online learning system
Electronic access to pertinent patient data (while on the clinic floor) via the School of Dentistry wireless network
Facilitation of Web-based testing and online discussion forums
Facilitation of the School of Dentistry's Problem Based Learning Online Assessment System

The Student Technology Support division provides convenient, on-site service for student laptops during regular work hours (M-F, 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.). The division also acts as a general resource for students and all their technology-related questions and concerns.
