Office of Student Financial Aid Services
Welcome to the IUSD Office of Student Financial Aid Services homepage. This information is designed to provide specific financial aid information for students enrolled in the IU School of Dentistry Doctor of Dental Surgery program.
For students enrolled in the Allied Dental Programs, please visit the
Office of Student Financial Aid Services for additional information. The IUPUI Office of Student Financial Aid Services provides counseling and completes financial aid awards for these undergraduate programs.
Financial Aid Overview
The first step in applying for financial aid for dental school is to complete the Free Application for Student Aid (FAFSA) application for the appropriate aid year. You are encouraged to complete this process via
FAFSA on the Web. Once the FAFSA has been submitted and received by IUPUI, the annual process of confirming eligibility and awarding financial aid begins in April for new students and late May for continuing students.
The primary financial aid resource for dental students is the
Federal Stafford (Subsidized/Unsubsidized) Loan program. This loan program will cover the majority of an in-state student's expenses each year. For non-residents, it is usually necessary for the student to apply for additional financial aid (see non-residents section below).
Please monitor your IUPUI email account for a notification to sign your MPN online. New students typically must complete a Master Promissory Note (MPN). For a continuing School of Dentistry student, a new MPN is only needed if you are changing lenders. Once the MPN has been completed, the loan funds are sent to IUPUI and disbursed to your bursar account approximately ten (10) days before the start of each enrollment term (i.e. Summer, Fall, Spring). IUPUI will certify your Federal Stafford Loan with the lender of your choice. IUPUI has teamed with Sallie Mae and SallieMae EdTrust (DENTALoans Program) to provide you with excellent borrower benefits and a fully automated borrowing process for the Federal Stafford and Graduate PLUS Loan program for the 2007-08 aid year. IF you choose another lender other than Sallie Mae, please contact the dental school financial aid office so we can begin the certification process with your chosen lender.
Award Processing Information
The DENTALoans Program offers dental students a "suite" of loan funding resources to help meet their tuition/fees and living-related expenses for the academic year:
Federal Grad PLUS Loan
Private Loan
Advanced Study Loan – Dental Grad Students
Residency/Licensing Exam Loan
Federal Consolidation Loan
Non-resident students - it is likely you will need additional aid beyond the "standard awards" in order to cover your total tuition/fees and living expenses. The next loan resource you should consider is the
Federal Graduate PLUS Loan.
PLEASE NOTE: If you are receiving any other type of financial aid resource (e.g. military scholarship, NHSC scholarship, outside scholarship, fee remission/stipend), you are required to notify the financial aid office of the award.
