Section Activities:
- Election results: Dr. Karen Gregson:
Secretary/Treasurer
- During the 2007-2008 Academic
year the Section sponsored or co-sponsored 16 seminars
over 12 months, in addition to the 2008 IUSD Research Day. There were 19
in the year 2006-2007. The 16 seminars consisted of 12 outside speakers of
which 10 were financially supported with an honorarium and/or $600 travel
allowance (from the IUSD Research Day Foundation account), 3 IUSD Faculty
speakers, 1 PhD student oral defense presentation. A schedule of last
years’ seminars can be requested and viewed electronically. Meeting
announcements were sent via e-mail to all dental school faculty, staff and
students and other members outside f dental school. Explorer
announcements were also sent via e-mail to all faculty and staff.
- The Research Day meeting was a success. It was one of the
most well attended meeting ever, likely due to the use of the electronic
check in/out procedure. There were a total 716 attendees between faculty
and staff (339) and undergraduate students (377). The sponsor were
extremely pleased with the meeting and for quite a few that have been
coming for several years, it was the first time ever that they run out of
supplies before the meeting was over.
- Membership up from last year (82 from 71).
- Vote on invitation to surrounding dental schools (11) was
approved.
- Four schools have confirmed that they attend
- Some companies have demonstrated interest in sponsoring
the guess for this event.
- New Venue reserved for next year Research Day – IUPUI
Student Campus Center. Date change to a Friday to facilitate attendance of
students outside of IUSD.
