INAADR President's Report

August 2006-July 2007

Section Activities:

  • Election results: Dr. Masatoshi Ando: Secretary/Treasurer

  • During the 2006-2007 Academic year the Section sponsored or co-sponsored 19 seminars over 12 months, in addition to the 2007 IUSD Research Day. There were 20 in the year 2005-2006. The 19 seminars consisted of 12 outside speakers of which 9 were financially supported with an honorarium and/or $600 travel allowance (from the IUSD Research Day Foundation account), 1 IUSD Faculty speakers, 4 PhD student oral defense presentation, and monthly undergraduate dental student presentation sessions. A schedule of last years' seminars can be requested and viewed electronically. Meeting announcements were sent via e-mail to all dental school faculty, staff and students. Explorer announcements were also sent via e-mail to all faculty and staff.

  • INAADR Online CE Proposal submitted: pending approval from IUSD Administration

  • INAADR helped to coordinate the purchase of the poster plotter. $25 per poster.

  • The Research Day meeting was a success, with very positive feedback from sponsors and attendees. More sponsors and vendors than last year and looking for new sponsors of awards for next year.

  • Membership down 6 from last year (71 from 77). Two reminders were sent out specifically to members, and two general announcements to the Dental School community.

  • Discussion Items
    • Attendance Policy for Research meeting for students
    • Invited Guest Speakers: To invite an outside speaker, a form needs to be completed and submitted for approval by the officers of the Indiana Section. A total of up to $600 will be paid to reimburse expenses. As we function right now, receipts need to be turned in to Marilyn Richards, since these costs are paid from the IUSD Research Day account and not from the Indiana Section bank account. The Indiana Section has traditionally been supporting 5-7 outside speakers per year.

      • Numbers of speakers: budgeted 7 for 2006,
      • Who is eligible
        • Currently: Two applications per faculty per year
      • Time needed for approval
        • If less than 2 weeks, the person inviting must find the room, prepare the announcement
      • Who is chosen
