Dr.
Maupomé is an oral health researcher with primary interests in dental
caries epidemiology and prevention, oral treatment needs in high-risk
patients, geriatrics, professional practice, and decision-making
analysis. He has also been active in strategic reform of oral health
care systems, human health resources, and professional dental practice
in developing countries.
From 2000 until 2005, Dr. Maupomé was an investigator with the Kaiser
Permanente Center for Health Research in Portland, Oregon. From 1995
until 2000, Dr. Maupomé was a faculty member at the University of
British Columbia in Vancouver, B.C., Canada. He had academic
appointments at UBC with the Institute of Health Promotion Research and
the Department of Oral Health Sciences from 2000 until 2005, and at the
University of California at San Francisco Dental School from 2002 until
2005. He is currently an affiliated scientist with the Regenstrief
Institute, Inc. in Indianapolis.
After receiving his dental training at the Universidad Nacional in
México City, Dr. Maupomé was awarded a M.Sc. in Experimental Oral
Pathology in 1986 and a Ph.D. in Public Health in 1991 from the
University of London. He received his diploma in Dental Public Health
from the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 1991. He is currently a
part-time resident in Dental Public Health with Baylor College of
Dentistry.
Between 1991 and 1995, Dr. Maupomé returned to the Universidad Nacional
in México City to be associated with projects funded by the Pan American
Health Organization and the Consejo Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnología in
projects of oral epidemiology and oral health needs in high-risk
populations, mainly the elderly. In Canada, Dr. Maupomé expanded this
line of research to encompass children and adolescent populations. |
