The department of Oral Surgery and Hospital
Dentistry of the Indiana University School of Dentistry is a multidisciplinary
hospital and office based practice providing the full scope of oral and
maxillofacial surgery and dental care. The department's mission is to provide
the highest quality of care with integrity and compassion. The department is
dedicated to being leaders in the community through education, research and
community partnership.
The Division
of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery provides treatment and management
of diseases, injuries, and defects of the jaw and facial skeleton.
Surgical management** includes:

Extraction of teeth
Extraction of wisdom teeth
Placement of Dental Implants
Placement of Facial Implants (e.g. ear reconstruction)
Placement of bone grafts for dental implants
Orthognathic surgery to correct skeletal deformities
Sleep apnea surgery
Cleft and craniofacial surgery
Reconstructive surgery to correct defects / deformities
secondary to tumors or trauma
Repair of traumatic injuries to the jaws and facial bones
Surgery of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ)
Surgery to remove cysts / tumors
Nerve repair surgery |
For those procedures performed in
the office Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons are trained in
office based ambulatory anesthesia.
The ability to safely sedate or anesthetize you adds to your comfort
during the procedure. |
The Division
of Hospital Dentistry provides treatment and management of diseases
and management of diseases of the oral cavity. The scope of practice**
includes:

Preventive dental services
Crown and Bridge
Full and partial dentures (false teeth)
Implant dentistry
Root canal therapy (endodontic care)
Gum treatment (periodontal care)
Extractions
Facial pain and non-surgical TMD treatment
Care for adults and children
Care of the special needs patient |
The division is
actively involved in the care of medically and physically
impaired patients. Treatment is done in both a hospital based
as well as outpatient clinic setting. Inpatient hospital
consultations are available. Faculty actively participate in
the head and neck cancer teams on campus and work closely with
bone marrow and organ transplant teams.
