Circulation
The
Indiana University School of Dentistry Library is open to the public. Visitors are welcome to consult all library materials. Borrowing privileges vary.
Books and media from the general stacks
All patrons with a valid
borrower's card issued by an Indiana University library are eligible to
borrow these materials. Indiana University affiliated patrons may renew items twice
except in cases where a hold has been placed on an item. Indiana residents who are not
affiliated with Indiana University are limited to three circulating items and
have a two-week loan period which may be renewed only once.
Fees and Fines *
1. Unreturned item charges and Fines
Patrons will be charged the replacement cost of the item PLUS a $25.00
processing fee
2. Reserve materials removed from the Library
Most RESERVE materials are restricted to Library-Use-Only.
A non-refundable fine of $50.00 per item will be assessed for Library-Use-Only materials taken from the Library.

Holds
A patron may request that library staff place a hold on materials
currently out on loan. Hold requests may be made at the circulation desk
or via the telephone. Patrons are required to provide their borrower ID
number at the time a hold is placed.
Journals
Borrowing privileges are restricted to School of Dentistry faculty,
staff and students. Journals circulate for three days and may not be
renewed.
Rare Books
All patrons with a valid borrower's card issued by
an Indiana University Library may consult these library-use-only
materials.
Reference Materials
Reference materials do not circulate and
must be consulted in the library.
Reserve Materials
All patrons with a valid borrower's card
issued by an Indiana University Library may consult these
library-use-only materials. These materials have a two-hour loan period
and may not be renewed. In addition, holds cannot be placed on Reserve
materials. Faculty members may request materials be placed on reserve by
completing a paper or electronic form.
See below for policy regarding Print Reserves. Students who wish to have
materials placed on Reserve must do so through a faculty member.
Theses
Borrowing privileges are
restricted to School of Dentistry faculty, staff and students. Theses
circulate for two weeks and may be renewed twice.

Collection Development
It is the policy of the Library to support all programs and services
offered by Indiana University School of Dentistry, including teaching,
research, patient care, and community outreach. The Head Librarian will
purchase all dental monographs in the English language and such foreign
language monographs as deemed appropriate, given the mission of Indiana
University School of Dentistry. Faculty, staff, and student
recommendations are encouraged. The Head Librarian is responsible for
selecting and purchasing audiovisual, non-print, and electronic
resources, as need and budget permit. New editions of standard dental
texts will be routinely purchased. Copies of all faculty publications
will be purchased. No more than five copies of a book will be purchased,
with the normal duplication limited to two copies. New periodical
subscriptions are reviewed by the Indiana University School of Dentistry
Library Committee prior to purchase.

Interlibrary Loan
The Indiana University School of
Dentistry Library will borrow materials not owned by IUPUI campus
libraries on behalf of School of Dentistry faculty, staff and students.
All other patrons are asked to make arrangements through their local
library.

Overdue Notices
Circulation - Notices are sent to patrons alerting them of overdue materials,
recalled materials, and hold availability.
Bills – Patrons are billed for the non-return of materials. The billed amount
includes a replacement fee and a processing fee.

Print Reserves - Procedures - Request Form
1. Materials not owned by the Dental School Library, a Dental
School Department, or the instructor cannot be placed on Print Reserve.
2. In accordance with the Fair Use provisions of the United States
Copyright Act (Title 17, U.S. Code), the Library will allow a
reproduction of only one article from any one journal, periodical, or
newspaper issue, and one chapter or not more than 10% from any book or
other monograph (conference proceedings; miscellaneous report,
unpublished paper etc.) to be placed on Print Reserve.th the Fair Use provisions of the United States
Copyright Act (Title 17, U.S. Code), the Library will allow a
reproduction of only one article from any one journal, periodical, or
newspaper issue, and one chapter or not more than 10% from any book or
other monograph (conference proceedings; miscellaneous report,
unpublished paper etc.) to be placed on Print Reserve.
3. Repeated use (more than 1 semester) of the same reproduction
requires the permission of the copyright owner. The faculty member will
be responsible for obtaining this permission and should be aware of time
delays and cost considerations.
4. For reprinted materials such as journal articles, book
chapters, lecture notes, etc., a maximum of three copies of each reprint
will be accepted based on the size of the class (approx. one copy for
every thirty (30) students enrolled in a course.)
5. Staff reserves the right to decline requests judged to exceed
the Fair Use exemptions of the United States Copyright Act (Title 17,
U.S. Code).
6. Instructors are
encouraged to convert photocopied reprints, formerly placed on Print
Reserve, to OnCourse, as allowable by the Fair Use provisions of the
United States Copyright Act (Title 17, U.S. Code). For more information
