Dear Alumni and friends,
I wanted to once again express my gratitude and thanks for another outstanding year
in private philanthropy at the Indiana University School of Dentistry.
Thanks to your thoughtfulness and generosity, the school once again established
a new record in overall giving to the school (cash gifts exceeding $1.5 million).
Also, for the second year in a row, Dean's Society participation exceeded 400 members.
I hope you will review the included graphs and donor giving roles reflecting the
substantial growth in private philanthropy that has occurred over the past five
years.
In my original columns after my arrival at IUSD in August of 2002, I stated my desire
to change attitudes and results in regard to private giving to IUSD.
I am most pleased to let you know that since that time, you have been exceptional
in your response and still continue to give at new record levels each year. The opportunity to meet so many of you
and change the face of philanthropy at Indiana University School of Dentistry has
indeed been both personally fulfilling and meaningful. I highly value the conversations
and friendships that have been fostered during my time at IUSD.
faculty, administration, staff and students of IUSD.
Now more than ever, your participation in support of our mission greatly impacts
and offsets the decrease in state funding available on an annual basis.
In fact, the operating budget for fiscal year 2007-2008 is supported less
than 28% by state funds.
I hope you will consider renewing, increasing or participating in giving in fiscal
year 2007-2008 (July 1, 2007-June 30, 2008) at Dean's Society level (gifts of $1000
or more during a fiscal year.)
With your loyal support, our school will continue to flourish and prosper as we continue our efforts for increased participation in private philanthropy to Indiana
University School of Dentistry.
Sincerely,
John Hoffman
