Overall Goals of the General Practice Residency at Indiana University

  1. To prepare the graduate to function as a patient's primary oral health care provider, treating or managing all aspects of oral health care.
  2. To prepare the graduate to enhance and expand knowledge and skills in multidisciplinary comprehensive and urgent general dental care, therefore providing a greater confidence in all phases of professional life.
  3. To prepare the graduate to plan and provide multidisciplinary oral health care for a wide variety of patients including patients with special needs.
  4. To prepare the graduate to interact with other health care professionals, in the hospital, outpatient clinics, and community health center environments, in order to facilitate the patients' total health care.
  5. To prepare the graduate to actively participate in critical thinking analysis and evidenced based care and utilize this knowledge in treatment decisions and continuous quality improvement.
