Didactic Program for the General Practice Residency at Indiana University
 

The didactic program is set up to include the following areas at a level of skill and complexity beyond the predoctoral training. You may view the individual curriculum goals here.
  1. patient assessment and diagnosis;
  2. planning and providing comprehensive multidisciplinary oral health care;
  3. obtaining informed consent;
  4. promoting oral and systemic health and disease prevention;
  5. sedation, pain and anxiety control;
  6. restoration of teeth;
  7. replacement of teeth using fixed and removable appliances;
  8. periodontal therapy;
  9. pulpal therapy;
  10. hard and soft tissue surgery;
  11. treatment of dental and medical emergencies, and
  12. medical risk assessment.

The seminar schedule includes conscious sedation and ACLS as well as a course in medical history and physical diagnosis.  Tuesday evening general dentistry seminars take place after clinics and utilize lecture, journal club and clinical case format.  Each month the residents have a dedicated Case Conference in which real cases involving a complexity in at least one of the following areas are discussed: dental treatment plan, medical complexity, diagnostic complexity, and/or behavioral complexity.  Additional seminars are taken with residents from Oral and Maxillofacial surgery.  Continuing education courses are also available.
