Clinical Program for the General Practice Residency at Indiana University

The GPR provides exposure to dental emergencies, pediatric dentistry, and dentistry for physically, developmentally and medically compromised patients. Residents are involved in consultations prior to head and neck cancer therapy and bone marrow and organ transplant. The residents also gain experience in providing general dentistry in the operating room for medically compromised individuals.  In addition, they manage patients with temporomandibular disorders, and provide comprehensive dental care to the general population.  In fact, a majority of the resident's time is spent providing comprehensive general dental care in a private practice setting.  Clinicians in the program participate in after-hours call via pager, and provide emergency dental care in the hospital emergency department.  Off service rotations include Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Anesthesia, Family Medicine, Oral Pathology, and ENT.  These rotations are designed to improve communication with other health care providers, both dental and medical, as well as allow the resident to gain experience in patient assessment and diagnosis.  A complete list of the goals and objectives of all the rotations can be viewed by contacting the Program Director.
