PERIODONTICS

Periodontics or Periodontology is that specialty of Dentistry that deals with the management of gum disease in its various forms. Periodontics also involves the placement and maintenance of dental implants which serve to replace missing teeth.

What is usually involved with Periodontal Treatment?

Periodontal therapy usually involves a diagnostic phase in which a clinical examination and a radiographic examination is performed. The first treatment phase usually involves deep cleaning around the teeth and the roots of the teeth. This is followed by a  second exam which, is done usually in about 4-6 weeks following the cleaning. A decision on further treatment is made at this time.

What are some of the available treatment options?

A brief list of treatment options provided by a periodontist would include:
* Non-surgical therapy
* Placement of antibiotics around your gums
* Surgical therapy including:
* Gum grafting
* Bone grafting
* Dental implants.
