PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The Dental Assisting program at Indiana University School of Dentistry is an accredited  professional program consisting of 31 college credit hours (two 16-week semesters).  A variety of teaching methods are offered, including Problem Based Learning and Distance Learning opportunities.  Indiana University School of Dentistry is one of four dental schools in the United States to offer dental assisting.   This provides students unlimited access to a variety of clinical settings and the expertise of internationally known dental faculty.  Areas covered in the approximately 1,000 hours of lecture, laboratory and clinical instruction are outlined under the Curriculum section.

The program offers a variety of educational experiences that will prepare graduates to seek employment as a dental professional.

Dental Assisting students are required to receive specific immunizations prior to beginning classes.  Potential students can view some of the required immunizations and services provided by IUPUI Health Services on their webpage http://health.iupui.edu/home.html.  A complete list of required immunizations will be sent to students upon acceptance into the program.
