Admission Criteria for Dental Assisting Program
Distance-learning Program
ADMISSIONS REQUIREMENTS
1. All dental assisting applicants must be considered admissible to IUPUI
and must file an undergraduate application through the IUPUI Office of
Admissions. The Admissions Office must have official
transcripts from high school and every school attended after high school
graduation. This
is a two step application process. *Note that acceptance letters
from IUPUI may contain the following statement, "academic record at this time
does not meet criteria for direct admission". This statement is in
reference to the specific Dental Assisting Program admission process as stated
below needing to be fulfilled prior to a dental assisting admissions committee
decision.
2. Required courses completed with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0
"C" on a 4.0 scale for science and English at high school or college level.
3. Verification of keyboarding experience or computer skills
4. Submit an OFFICIAL high school transcript (9-12 grades) from all
high schools attended of the academic work you have completed. If applicable, submit a
copy of GED Certificate and Scores. If you are currently enrolled in your senior year
of high school, transcript should include fall semester.
If you are currently enrolled or have attended a college, university, or
vocational program, you must submit an OFFICIAL transcript from all schools attended; however,
students attending any Indiana University Campus may submit an unofficial transcript.
FINAL OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPTS of all academic work completed must be received in
the dental assisting office before FINAL ACCEPTANCE into the Dental Assisting Program.
5. All applicants must observe a dental assistant in a dental office for a
minimum of 8 hours. The IUSD Dental Assisting Verification of Dental Office Observation Form is to be
signed by the dentist and submitted to the dental assisting program by June 1st.
6. If an individual has English as a second or another language, the
applicant will need to take the IUPUI ESL (English as a second language) placement. These results will be used as
part of the Committee's admissions review. The Committee may require an interview or writing exercise
to determine the applicant's English skills.
7. Indiana licensed dentist will be required as a sponsoring dentist in the
field of general dentistry.
8. Technology requirements will include:
Internet access at Explorer IE6 or higher; Recommended DSL or cable
modem for access
Office XP or higher
9. The ability to come to Indiana University School of Dentistry when
necessary.

INCOMPLETE APPLICATIONS CANNOT BE CONSIDERED. APPLICATION & SUPPORTING
MATERIALS/REQUIREMENTS will not be accepted after 5:00pm (EDT) June 1 of the
year prior to the fall semester you wish to enter the program. Class
members accepted on a first completed packet and qualified, first admitted
basis.
